Onward Online Privacy

What happened, which websites participated, and where do you stand on the issue?

Recently the White House proposed a privacy bill of rights for Internet users that could give them more say over how personal information is collected and used.  It is called the “consumer Privacy Bill of Rights”.  It offers a sensible set of principles for online privacy, calling on Web companies to minimize their collection if personal data, help users make informed choices about the information they reveal, and not to use personal data for new purposes without the user’s consent.  There are many websites that already have a good security for personal information.  Website owners also have been upgrading the personal information so that users can set up their own private information.  This “Bill of Rights” isn’t really needed for website owners have been doing it since the users complaints.  For example, Facebook, it use to have bad privacy information protection, but many users have been complaining about the privacy issue, so the owner takes action to make his “customers” happy.  There are commissions like the Federal Trade Commission and California prosecutors have the power to crack down on companies that make misleading statements about their privacy policies.  Website owners know this and will not make a false move to lose his/her company or users.  Also, the government shouldn’t be part of user’s privacy because it should be the user’s responsibility to accept or decline to show their private information to the world.  This shouldn’t be a country problem; this can be local or even a states problem.  I don’t just go around and give my private information to everyone, even on social network sites.  I’m always aware of what not to put online for it can be dangerous.  That’s why my mom always tells me, after shopping online; always delete the credit card number for hackers can get it.  I say that the government shouldn’t make choices for others, people should know about the weak privacy protection many websites have. 

Global Warming

1) What can the US do to help solve this problem?

The US can contribute financially and socially to reduce the amount of green house effect.  Instead of just creating amendments and keeping the country maintained, the US should care about the environment and the world itself.  The US doesn’t realize that the Earth is burning up like an oven and there isn’t much time till Mother Nature causes tragic disasters.  There are people and organizations who protested in front of the Capitol saying that it’s not just about the government, the people, all over the world, we matter.  I personally experienced this on April 22^nd, Earth Day.  The US has the chance to change the environment make Earth a better place.  The US need to act now because tomorrow will be one day too late. 

2) What can individuals do within their communities to help solve this problem?

Individuals in their communities can always support or start a group to help spread the word about doing something to stop greenhouse effect or any other concerns.  You can always start buying writing to your local congressmen or representative to let them know your concerns because each letter makes a change. 

3) Give some examples of local organization designed to promote awareness about global warming.

How would you conduct a study confirming college discrimination against Asian American students?

I would conduct a study that will test the Asian American on every subject.  Many Asian Americans are excellent at math and science, but that won’t get them so far.  They would also need to be fluent in English and be able to write well.  The article says that universities prefer for athletes.  I would say that if you do a sport, it will just boost up the chance of getting into a better college.  Athletes shouldn’t just be accepted for just being great at a sport; universities should also look at their grades and GPA.  You wouldn’t want an athlete with a poor GPA or SAT score?  I wouldn’t.  That’s why testing instead of Asian Americans having a sport, they can be tested on multiple subjects instead of just math and science.  It wouldn’t be fair for Asian Americans to be discriminated for their race and lack of sports.  I wouldn’t like universities just accepting students who are athletes with a poor GPA or SAT score.  What does this world need, athletes or doctors or engineers?  This country need to have future doctors and engineers so they can run their country, our country, together.  Athletes would be great to have, but their just for our entertainment like NBA.  It’s great to have the NBA or MLB, but what do they contribute to the country?  I would test Asian Americans in more subjects instead of requiring a sport if I was running a college.

Do you agree with the results reported in this paper?

I do not agree with the reports in the paper because it said that Asian Americans need SAT scores about 140 points higher than white students.  Is that fair for Asian Americans?  So what if Asian Americans work hard and study a lot that comes out as a great result.  Asian Americans put the effort to work hard to get into a great college doesn’t mean they should get a better score then white students.  Every single student, any race, should have the same chance, to get into college and requirements.  But look at Jeremy Lin, he went to Harvard, even when there was discrimination, he still got through and did the things that people said he couldn’t.  He went to go play basketball and many people were making fun of him.  They would say. Aren’t you missing orchestra practice, or even open your slanty eyes.   But guess what, he brought his California high school team to a state championship and got picked up by the Knicks.  Now he is on the Knicks, he has been becoming more popular by the second.   People shouldn’t judge and treat people differently just because of their race.   

Natural Gas

In our current situation, is natural gas a good investment or no?

Natural gas isn't a good investment today. Natural gas according to the article could "save out economy, environment, and promote national security. this is all true but but in our situation right now we don't have the knowledge to safely get natural gas. This article talks a lot about how natural gas is a great alternative to coal because it only emits half as much carbon as coal. In our current situation natural gas isn't a completely safe alternative to coal because natural gas contributes to global warming as much as 25 molecules of burned gas. Natural gas even if it leaks by 2.5%, it is just as bad as coal.

No Technology

If I was away from any type of technology for 90 days, I would go insane.  I would rip my hair off and just punch my wall.  But I would keep myself occupied like going to the gym, sleep, or hang out with friends.  I would go to the gym and play basketball with my friends or practice which would take most of my time away.  When I sleep, I don't wake up.  I'm a heavy sleeper so the day will go by really fast.  The only time I really use technology is for school or if I'm bored.  I would take this challenge if there was a reward if I make it through like $100.
